Changes to services whilst we deliver booster vaccines - 22/12/21

Dear patients, we wish to address false rumours of our closure circulating online. Our surgery remains open and will continue to be. We apologise for any confusion caused by our recent text communications. Our phone lines are open and we are offering appointments to those who require them. We ask patients that if they are able to resolve their issue by using 111 or their local pharmacy that they do so. This supports us to deliver the covid booster vaccines. We are grateful for your support and wish to thank those waiting for routine services. We understand you may be frustrated with the pause on routine services however we must follow the guidance issued by the Government and the BMA which you can read more about here. The Derby & Derbyshire LMC have also issued a letter for patients which you can read here.

Please see the statement below from Dr Hale, Senior Partner.

"We are not closed and we have never closed throughout this pandemic. We continue to see patients face to face who require this type of appointment. It is so important to us that those patients with urgent and potentially serious problems contact us as normal.

You will have seen the recent announcement by the Prime Minister. During this most busy and difficult time of year we have now been tasked with vaccinating several thousands of our patients against covid. We have never before had such massive demand on our services.

We are, however, trying to respond to this global crisis and do the very best for our patients. It is inevitable that some of the normal running of our surgery, and all the others in the city, will need to adjust the way we work. A lot of work done in surgeries around the country can be avoided if the patients gain the appropriate advice from Pharmacies, 111 and online services. Our message to our patients yesterday simply asked them to help us in our efforts to vaccinate as many as possible during the coming months.

Many of our staff are exhausted from their efforts over the last few months and were looking forward to a short break over Christmas and New Year. This unfortunately is now not happening as we begin to work during our weekends and Bank Holidays over Christmas.

I am personally very proud of my staff in the efforts they continue to go to help this community during this pandemic."

Covid Booster Programme - 21/12/21

In line with the Government’s announcement, the NHS is aiming to offer every adult the chance to book a Covid-19 booster vaccine by the end of the year, with the aim to protect the population against the Omicron variant. Anyone aged 18 and over and who had their vaccination at least 61 days ago is eligible for the booster.

If you haven’t already, you can book your booster online using the national booking system or attend a walk-in clinic. If you prefer to have your booster at Lister House we will be in touch when it is your turn, please don't contact your GP surgery about your booster.

Information on the walk-in clinics available in Derby and Derbyshire can be found on the Joined Up Care Derbyshire website here. Midland House, Derby, DE1 2SA have plenty of capacity to accept walk-ins and you should be in and out in no time. Monday - Sunday | 7.45am - 8pm.

It's also not too late to have your first jab. Simply book online or attend a walk-in centre.

Please share this message with family and friends and lets #GetBoosted.

Temporary change to fit notes - 20/12/21

For Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), where employees go off sick on or after 10 December 2021, employers can only ask employees for proof of sickness (such as a fit note) after 28 days of sickness (including non-working days). Proof of sickness cannot be requested earlier than 28 days. This applies to all employees on SSP or full paid sick leave.

Fit notes do not have to be provided for DWP benefit claims until 27 January. This will not affect claims to benefit.

These changes are to give GP’s more time to work on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) booster programme.

If you are concerned about your health condition, you should continue to see your GP.

For more information you can visit the gov.uk website

Response to Prime Minister announcement - 12/12/21

On Sunday 12th December the Prime Minister addressed the population announcing that the booster vaccine would be available from this week for all adults over 18 in an effort to better protect our community against the Omicron variant.

We are now working incredible quickly to plan the increased vaccination schedule and will be in contact with you when it is your turn. PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE SURGERY ABOUT YOUR BOOSTER VACCINATION. We will contact you as soon as we have your booster ready.

We would like to reassure our patients with regards to the comments made about postponing other health appointments to allow for the increased vaccination demand. We will not cancel appointments for those who need them, patient safety will not be compromised.

For more information please see this letter from the Derby & Derbyshire LMC.

Contacting Your Surgery - 02/12/21

Although the call centre isn't accessible to the public, we want to reassure you that our dedicated call handlers are doing everything they can to get through to you on the phone. Please help us to help you by calling the surgery when you need an appointment and using other routes such as econsult, the prescription line, your pharmacists and 111 online.
